Contender Bicycles is devoted to providing the best bike shop experience possible for those who are passionate about cycling. We strive to offer our favorite brands in cycling and back it up with expert advice, know-how, and service. Whether you're a mile or an ocean away from our shops, we strive tirelessly to be the premier bike shop for the seasoned cyclist and the amateur alike.

 

Our shop started in 1987 as a local bike shop servicing the suburbs of Salt Lake City. Just a year after opening, shop owner Ryan joined Contender, working through high school and college to supplement his bike racing. Then in 1999, Ryan bought the shop, and two years after, moved it to the 9th & 9th neighborhood in the heart of Salt Lake City. The rest is history: a custom-built building designed specifically as a bike shop in 2013, a second storefront in Park City, Utah, in 2018, and an array of awards and accolades both locally and nationally along the way.

 

We have grown considerably to meet the needs and expectations that come with providing the best bike shop experience possible. We work closely with top brands and have become the largest dealer in the country and world for some of them. Our custom pro build process allows almost anyone to find their dream bike build, and our in-house paint program adds a special touch. At the same time, we would not be where we are without the support of our local community and world-class bike riding Utah has to offer.

Many things in the cycling world have changed over the years, but our focus on providing an unassuming experience that helps everyone to achieve a great time on the bike has not. Whether you buy a bell from us locally, or a custom-built and painted in-house bike with us in New York City, we are committed to making every bike a dream bike, no matter what, where, or how you ride.
