Beautiful Bicycle - A Meticulous SCOR 4060 LT
SCOR as a brand is relatively new, but those who know about them know that they’re more or less an offshoot of BMC. While BMC is the race-optimized side of bike engineering, SCOR makes bikes the engineers ride when they’re looking for trail riding fun. And while this SCOR 4060 LT won’t be placed under any EWS pros any time soon, that doesn’t mean that this bike - optimized for fun - can’t be fast as well.
What the hell is SCOR, anyways? We’ve written about them at length HERE and HERE, but SCOR makes mountain bikes for folks looking to have fun on the trails. There are deliberate choices that highlight that here. The chainstays are shorter than other bikes, and that is by design. Everything is built with an emphasis on enjoying the ride, and if a feature distracts from that, then it isn’t here.
While this whole custom SCOR mountain bike build is worthy of consideration, it is the 4060 frame that might be the strongest highlight of the package. The frame is thoughtfully finished and high quality. That comes even down to the paint thickness, the concealed pivots, and the well-placed frame protection. We love the downtube stash box that doubles as frame protection. The angle-adjusting headset that comes with the bike is a fun touch as well, and overall the package screams premium.
The rest of the build pulls out all of the stops. We’re suckers for purple anodized parts and this one is a coup d’etat. The matching anodized purple components from Wolf Tooth, Race Face, and AbsoluteBlack coincide nicely with the deep purple frame. The fork decals are color-matched to the purple ENVE wheel logos as well for that last hint of cohesion.
But the customization goes even deeper. A majority of the bolts here are custom anodized. The bolt that attaches the TRP DH-R EVO Gold brakes was not only custom anodized but is color-matched to the existing anodization. Bolts tying the calipers to the bike are finished in an oil slick, as are the bolts for the water bottle mount. Anodized purple, oil slick, and an orange fork: it's all here.
It is worth giving a quick shoutout to the brakes. TRP isn’t a brand we see too often, as most folks are perfectly happy Shimano, SRAM, or the occasional Trickstuff or Magura setup we see. TRP is a brand typically seen on the EWS more than anything, and these DH-R EVO Gold brakes are the cream of the crop. Their feel is kind of like the immediate power of Shimano four-piston brakes, but with the modulation one might feel from SRAM. The rotors are built for heavy-duty use too, measuring in at a thicc 2.3mm compared to the typical 2.0mm rotor thickness. Best of all, they’re gold!
