Bike Assembly Checklist

Before you start

  • Inspect the bike box for damage. Please contact us if there is any significant damage to the box.
  • Bike assembly tools you'll need: 4mm, 5mm, 8mm or pedal wrench, heavy duty scissors or angle cutters, bike grease, assembly paste. Additional recommended tools: Bike stand, torque wrench

Unboxing

  • Open box with box cutters or scissors - be careful not to cut into box. You may potentially damage tires or frame inside the box.
  • In the box will be parts box that contains smaller bike parts needed for assembly or any accessories you may purchased with the bike and a checklist for assembling your new bike.
  • Grab the top tube of the frame and pull the whole bike out. All of the components will be secured to the frame. Set the bike gently on the floor.

Remove Packaging, Install seatpost and handlebars

  • Remove wheel from frame using scissors to cut zip ties. Be sure the wheel is free from the crank arm or any other bike part before removing.
  • If you do not have a stand, lay the bike down with the drive side - cranks and derailleurs facing up. If you have a stand, install the seatpost. Use assembly paste before installing and if you have Di2, attach the cable to the battery in the seatpost. Use caution when inserting the post with a Di2 cable into the from. If you feel any resistance you may be damaging the cable. Pull the post out and make sure the cable is not obstructing the post and reinsert with care. If you have provided your saddle height we will mark the insertion point with some tape.
  • Remove handlebars. Brake and shifter cables will be attached. Just install the bar to the stem by removing the faceplate, placing the bar onto the stem then installing the faceplate and bolts. Get the bolts snug. You'll tighten them later when you dial in your handlebar position.
  • Remove the rest of the packaging from the frame and drivetrain. Keep these in case you need to repack the bike.

Front wheel assembly

For bikes with disc wheels:
  • Remove the axle from the fork. Also, remove the brake block from the disc calipers.
  • The wheel will come with some plastic protectors for the hubs. Remove these. The protectors may pull the dust caps off of the hub. Reinstall if these fall out.
  • Insert wheel into fork, guiding the disc into the calipers.
  • Insert axle and tighten (5mm).
  • Spin the wheel to make sure nothing is rubbing and quickly test the brakes.
For bikes with rim brakes:
  • Remove the fork protector from the fork.
  • The wheel will come with some plastic protectors for the hubs. Remove these. The protectors may pull the dust caps off of the hub. Reinstall if these fall out.
  • Locate the front quick-release skewer in the parts box.
  • Install the front skewer into the wheel.
  • Install wheel. Make sure the wheel is squarely in the fork dropouts and aligned in the fork.
  • Adjust skewer to proper tension and close lever to secure.
  • Spin the wheel to make sure nothing is rubbing and quickly test the brakes.
  • Close brake calipers and center if needed.

Pedal assembly

Your bike may have come with pedals. Pedals are threaded for each side. Make sure you thread them in a forward direction (towards the front of the bike). Also, always apply grease to the threads.

Final bike assembly and check

  • Handlebar positioning - set the bike on the ground and adjust the handlebars.
  • Tighten the bolts on the faceplate in an "X" pattern. If you have an Easton stem, tighten the top bolts first then the bottom.
  • Use a torque wrench on the stem faceplate bolts using the recommended settings.
  • Use a torque wrench to make sure the stem bolts at the steerer tube at properly tightened.
  • Make sure your saddle is centered and use a torque wrench to tighten your seatpost clamp.
  • If you don't have a bike stand, lift the rear wheel off the ground and shift through the gears making sure shifting is smooth and the derailleur is properly adjusted.
  • Check the front and rear brakes, making sure they are not rubbing and there is sufficient stopping power.
  • Make sure your tires are properly inflated.
  • If you have a bike with suspension make sure your sag is set properly. You'll need a shock pump for this.
  • If you have Di2, SRAM eTap or an eBike be sure to fully charge your batteries before your first ride.
  • Install any accessories that came with your bike like bottle cages, computer mounts, seat bags, etc...
