The 2021 SCOTT MTB Buyer’s Guide Part Two – Genius and Ransom

Written by Madeleine Whitley, on March 03, 2021

We have only just started to see 2021 SCOTT bikes trickle in, but we have fielded loads of questions about what’s changed for the new year. As such, we have rounded up some of the most important changes to the SCOTT mountain bike line for 2021 to help you figure out what bike is best for you.

SCOTT Genius

The 2021 SCOTT Genius is their do-all trail bike. It features 150mm travel front and rear, plenty for your local bike park without getting lost in it on tamer trails. While not much has changed for the 2021 Genius, not much needed to change: the option for two wheels sizes, a lightweight carbon frame and swingarm, and the SCOTT-exclusive Fox NUDE TR EVOL shock separate the Genius from the competition. Genius is available with a carbon or an alloy frame in four sizes. 2021 SCOTT Genius at Contender Bicycles The one update across the size range is an update to the Fox 36 fork (nearly all prior Genius feature a Fox 34 fork) for increased steering stability and support at speed. The Fox 36 generally represents a substantial increase in cost, but prices for 2021 Genius have largely held steady.

Choose the SCOTT Genius as your do-all bike. Twinloc and low weight for a trail bike make it all-day rideable, but 150mm suspension makes it fun in just about any situation.

SCOTT Genius 910 AXS 2021 Scott Genius 910 AXS The 2021 SCOTT Genius 910 AXS packs some of the coolest technologies available in mountain bikes today. A Syncros Hixon iC carbon one-piece handlebar stem combo adds steering precision and cuts weight. Likewise, a SRAM GX-X01 AXS wireless drivetrain makes shifting faster and easier than ever. The addition of the Fox NUDE TR EVOL shock and it's Ramp Adjust feature allows for mid-ride changes to the shock's progressiveness. Call it adding and removing volume spacers at the flip of a switch; SCOTT calls it Genius.

SCOTT Genius 930 2021 Scott Genius 930 SCOTT’s Genius is best known for it's lightweight, agile demeanor, and the 2021 SCOTT Genius 930 mountain bike has it in spades. It features a Fox 36 Performance fork and a Fox NUDE EVOL T shock, both with 150mm travel. Shimano Deore four-piston brakes, and a Shimano SLX-Deore XT 12-speed drivetrain round this bike out into a true trail weapon.

SCOTT Ransom

No bike with 170mm suspension travel front and rear has any business being as versatile as the SCOTT Ransom. The 2021 SCOTT Ransom is SCOTT’s long-travel enduro bike, featuring progressive geometry and lightweight carbon and alloy construction. The Ransom Tuned weighs under 30 lbs, but other Ransom models offer among the best performance per dollar among any long travel bike on the market today.
