Emigration Canyon
Emigration Canyon is perhaps the most-ridden road bike ride in Salt Lake City. The steady, slight incline takes you through the canyon and to a nice little overlook. Great way to get your cycling fix without spending a ton of time on it. Road cyclists from all over the valley arrive in droves to ride Emigration. The advantage to this popularity is that motorists know to look for bikers on this road.
Those looking for even more climbing can continue down the descent toward the reservoir and up Big Mountain. The road narrows, but the amount of auto traffic decreases. At the same time, the climb becomes steeper, with a few switchbacks that make the descent a memorable one. If you have the time and strength, Big Mountain is well-worth the additional ten miles round trip.
