Lytle Preserve and Beaver Dam Wash
Running north - south through the lower left corner of the state, Old Highway 91 runs through some of the most interesting and beautiful desert scapes of the St George area. Outstanding gravel routes can be found all along the highway, and the Lytle Preserve/Beaver Dam Wash route is a great way to see some of the best riding the area has to offer.
Starting just south west of the Castle Cliffs Historical Marker on highway 91, this 28-ish mile out and back + loop takes you out to the Lytle Preserve area. The preserve protects one of the West's most delicate and diverse ecosystems. Dotted with Joshua Tree, Yucca and Creosote, the scenery alone makes this ride worth the trip.
Covering around 2350' of elevation including a few kicks upwards of 10%, you'll get some good efforts along with entertaining descents and some fun technical sections. The loop down through the Beaver Dam Wash area adds some more variety of terrain and vegetation to this all-gravel route.
